On 15 and 16 November, at SIMEI 2022, the spotlights were also focused on the conferences organized, for the first time during a fair, by The Sustainable Wine Roundtable (SWR), the aggregation which around the theme "sustainability ” brings together some of the main stakeholders in the wine sector.
But who is SWR? It is a unique coalition – the only global, independent roundtable to include all stakeholders in the wine sector. Working together, we will define sustainable wine in practical detail and develop a global sustainability reference standard.
Among the best known members, just to name a few, we point out Alliance Wine, Amorim Cork, British Glass, Bsi, Château Léoube, Concha y Toro, Domaine Bousquet, Enotria & Coe, Equalitas, WWF, Food Alliance, Hochschule Geisenheim University, International Wineries for Climate Action, Lidl, Schenk, Sustainable Winegrowing Australia, Sustainable Winegrowing British Columbia, System Bolaget, Co-op Uk, The Wine Society, Treasury Wine Estates, Vins de Bordeaux, Vintage Wine Estates and Waitrose & Partners etc.
Unpredictable weather variations, soil health and resilience of the agricultural ecosystem as regards the vineyard; but also water resources and CO2 emissions in the cellar. These are the main criticalities revealed by surveys carried out by SWR, which were examined precisely during the conferences in question, during which the costs of sustainability and how to arrive at defining a universally valid and recognized standard were also discussed.
