"A winery for Tanzania": SIMEI also supports the project by Assoenologi and leading companies in the wine sector
The project to build a winery in Tanzania stemmed from an idea of Father Kessy Baltazary – a young parish priest originally from Hombolo - who, after talking about it with the bishop of the local Archdiocese, moved to Italy for a year to train at the School of Enology in Alba.
Father Kessy's intention is to produce wine for the parishes of Tanzania, cutting the costs for importing from European countries, but above all to create job opportunities for local young people and create income for the many winemakers in the region, who are over 300.
During his studies in Alba, Father Kessy met the winemakers association Assoenologi that, thanks to its President Riccardo Cotarella, immediately became a promoter of this project of active solidarity. Assoenologi started phase 1 of the project with a financial contribution and involved many companies in the wine sector and not only that sent donations and materials to make the dream a reality.
Among the many companies that participated and supported the initiative are also numerous exhibitors from SIMEI, who are listed here below and whom we thank for their active involvement:

In December 2024, the first materials left for Tanzania. Once at their destination, they were met by a delegation of technicians, including the director of the association Paolo Brogioni, ready to move on to phase 2. After evaluating the premises, the condition of the vines and the availability, the Assoenologi technicians drew up a technical project and started the construction of the winery.
Today, after about 6 months of work, the winery is starting to take shape, continuing to involve companies, entities and individuals who – taking the project to heart – will accompany Father Kessy and his collaborators until phase 3.
That is why SIMEI, sharing the goal of creating a sustainable business and bringing a positive effect on the local community, is also supporting Assoenologi in collecting what is still missing from Father Kessy's winery.
