CIMEC: versatility and efficiency in bottling/canning

Cimec, a company from Nizza Monferrato (AT), specialises in machinery for bottling and canning beverages, with a focus on beer and carbonated products. In addition to the design and construction of machines, it offers turnkey installations and technical assistance. Gianluca Cacciatore, owner of the company, explains the offer dedicated to breweries.

Engineer Cacciatore, what are Cimec's solutions for craft breweries?

Since the beginning, Cimec has oriented its business towards carbonated products, developing specific technologies. Today, our offer in the brewing sector is mainly based on monoblocs that combine rinsing, isobaric filling and capping, possibly completed by labelling. For craft breweries, which often work in small spaces and with variable productions, we offer modular configurations that guarantee flexibility and minimise waste.

... and can your machines be customised?

Customisation is our trademark. Each machine is built on the customer's needs, depending on the type of container, the number of bottles or cans per hour they aim to produce, the type of cap or closure, etc. We study everything in our engineering department and design custom-made solutions. A solution that customers really appreciate is our COMBI series: a versatile monobloc that can work with both glass bottles and aluminium cans.

Speaking of Industry 4.0 and 5.0, are your machines able to communicate with other equipment and with a possible control centre? And on the sustainability front, have you adopted specific measures to reduce energy consumption?

Industry 4.0 is based on automation and interconnection, and our machines integrate with control centres to track productions and anomalies. Energy efficiency, provided for in the Transition Plan 5.0, is a responsibility. In the monoblocs, for example, we use a single motor to drive the rinser, filler and capper, thereby drastically reducing the electricity requirement. We also optimise tyre consumption. A lot of people underestimate this aspect because they think first and foremost about electricity, but air generates indirect costs, since it requires compressors that consume energy. With efficient valves and controlled flows, the need for compressed air decreases, and savings are seen in the bill.

Moving on to service, which is crucial for craft breweries, how do you manage after-sales service? Remote assistance, interventions on site?

Service is our strength: we can connect via the internet to the electrical panel of the machine, and from our office we can see what happens. We can fix software problems or make PLC adjustments without moving, it just takes a quick session. For mechanical failures, on the other hand, we will dispatch our technicians, who will be the same ones who followed the installation and therefore guarantee continuity and thorough knowledge of the machine. We are here to make bottling an ally, not an obstacle.
